Career prospects and skill set of graduates of the doctoral programme in Chemical Process Engineering

In this programme, students gain expertise in various RDI fields related to chemical process engineering, which spans a wide range of contexts.

Students develop knowledge and skills in a range of areas, including:

  • Expertise in the field of food products: durability, traceability, optimisation, food hygiene and engineering, design and construction of new equipment and facilities in food companies, etc.
  • Skills related to the integration and intensification of processes, waste management and recovery, and pollution control.
  • Training in various fields related to risk analysis/assessment and safety. Training focuses mainly on risk analysis in the processing industry, environmental risk assessment and fire events in forests and inside buildings.
  • In the field of nanotechnology, students gain the ability to design, develop, characterise and test new catalysts based on nano- and microstructures (e.g. for the generation and purification of hydrogen). They also gain expertise in the development of photocatalysts and photocatalytic reactors for generating hydrogen from water and sunlight, etc.
  • Students acquire the ability to apply various separation technologies (e.g. to remove pollutants from water) and to develop new sensors as analytical tools for monitoring physicochemical parameters of interest in natural and industrial environments. In the field of waste management, graduates are able to perform characterisation and other studies to ensure proper treatment of waste from different sources.

Regardless of the research area of their thesis, students develop the ability to conceive, design, implement and adapt a substantial process of research. The programme also aims to provide students with training that enables them to help expand the frontiers of knowledge through original research. Graduates will also be capable of critical analysis, evaluation and synthesis of new and complex ideas and have the skills required to present their ideas and knowledge in academic and professional contexts.
